The 3.7cm PaK 36 was the standard anti-tank weapon of the Wehrmacht at the beginning of the war. With its comparatively light combat weight of approx. 330 kg, it was easy to move in a team platoon and, thanks to its compact size, was also very easy to camouflage. The first real combat missions took place in the Spanish Civil War. Even during the French campaign however, deficiencies in the penetration performance against the medium to heavy tank models were found. In such cases, the 8.8cm FlaK 36, which was also in use at the beginning of the war, often had to help out. Nevertheless, the PaK 36 was still in use in large numbers during the attack on the Soviet Union. Successes could still be achieved against the light tank models, but the PaK 36 had virtually no chance against better armored models such as the T-34 or KW models. Through the use of ammunition with a tungsten core, the ease of sleeping through could again meet the requirements, but due to the war situation, the procurement of tungsten was extremely expensive and therefore one switched to other alternatives (-> 7.5cm PaK 40).
